Stephen Coleclough (aged 48) joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (then Coopers & Lybrand) as a VAT Partner, in January 1997 and works in the VAT practice in London. Prior to that he was at Simmons & Simmons as a qualified solicitor from 1987, becoming a partner in 1991, and head of corporate tax in 1995.
Stephen became Chairman of the Conféderation Fiscale Européene Fiscal Committee in 2005, the first indirect tax practitioner to be so. Stephen joined the Board at the same time and has worked throughout the last 4 years as a board member to promote the changes to the CFE we have seen, including the reform of the system for nominating and electing Officers, having its own independent staff and offices and removing the reimbursement of expenses for Fiscal Committee representatives. Previously he chaired its Indirect Tax Committee from 2001 to 2004. He has been a member of the CFE Fiscal Committee since 1997, when he joined to work on the SLIM Task Force and has worked consistently to strengthen the CFE’s relationship with the Tax Directorate of the Commission.
Stephen became a Council member and Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in 2000. He was from May 2005 until May 2008, Chairman of its Technical Committee, and prior to that Chairman of its VAT sub committee, as well as sitting on its Treasury and Finance Committee.
He has written numerous articles and lectured on various topics at home and abroad, and as an author contributed to many journals and publications, most recently Tolleys Digests on VAT and Property and VAT and Insolvency.
