Fiscal Committee

About the work of the Committee:

The technical work of the CFE is carried out by the Fiscal Committee. The main task of the Fiscal Committee is to cast a critical eye on all draft Directives aiming at the development of tax law within the EU and on developments in the different areas of taxation. In this regard, the CFE has set itself the objective of drawing attention to the views held by tax advisers, as representatives of the taxpayer, and of making these opinions known to the Institutions of the European Union and to the OECD. For this reason, the opinion statements of the CFE focus essentially on problems relating to the practical application of Directive proposals and solutions. In this context, the CFE feels that proposals made with a view to harmonising taxes should take into account the taxpayer’s interests, and should be as easy to implement as possible.

The opinion statements of the CFE are highly regarded by the European Institutions and by the OECD due to their very objective nature and the experience of practitioners they contain.

The Fiscal Committee is composed of experts from the 32 member organisations of the CFE belonging to 24 different European countries.

The chairman of the Fiscal Committee is Mr Gottfried Schellmann (A). In order to facilitate the organisation of the fiscal work, the Fiscal Committee is divided into direct and indirect taxation sub-committees. The chairman of the Indirect Taxation Committee is Mr Christian Amand from Belgium and the chairman of the Direct Taxation Committee is Mr Ian Young from United Kingdom.
