About the organisation:
President: Linda Lynch
The Irish Taxation Institute educates, informs, represents and sets standards for its members and is the premier professional body of the Tax Consultancy Profession in Ireland. The Institute also plays a key role in keeping the general public up-to-date on taxation matters and the Institute’s educational, information, publications and other support services are vital in this regard.
The Institute participates in the Tax Administration Liaison Committee (TALC), whose function is to resolve taxation issues of an administrative and technical nature. The committee has a permanent membership comprising of the Irish Taxation Institute, the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies in Ireland, the Law Society of Ireland and the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
The main object of the Irish Taxation Institute is to promote the study of taxation and, in particular, to provide education in the subject by means of lectures to students and seminars at a more advanced level to members, the business community and other interested persons. The institute also plays a role in promoting the taxation profession to graduates, the general public and the business community.
Admission to membership as an Associate is by examination only subdivided into three parts normally taken in three successive years, but with certain exemptions available in the first two parts for persons holding certain other qualifications (eg law, accountancy). A higher qualification, as a Fellow, is awarded for the submission of a thesis on a selected taxation subject (if adjudged to be of high enough standard) and may, at the discretion of the Council of the Institute, also be awarded for special contributions to the study of taxation (eg a major publication).
The Irish Taxation Institute and its qualification (the AITI) has been officially recognised in Ireland for the purposes of the EC Council Directive on the General System for the Recognition of Higher Education Diplomas (89/48/EEC 21/12/1988).
