The “A.N.T.I. – ASSOCIAZIONE NAZIONALE TRIBUTARISTI ITALIANI” (Italian Association of Tax Advisers) was established in 1949 as an atypical committee created to provide scientific support for the first tax reform following the coming into force of the Constitution of the Italian Republic. It was the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ezio Vanoni, who invited tax law academics and tax practitioners to form an association of specialists which might at the same time be able to contribute to the drafting of new tax rules and act as a permanent interface and catalyst between the Treasury and taxpayers. Therefore, the A.N.T.I. was born as a private but predominantly social-oriented association.

In the first sixty years of its activity, the A.N.T.I. has hugely contributed to the development of tax legislation, giving significant support to the Treasury, pleading for taxpayers’ rights while promoting awareness of their obligations.

The most prestigious academic personalities, tax experts and former Ministers of Finance have been Presidents of the A.N.T.I., such as Ernesto D’Albergo, Epicarmio Corbino, or still are members, such as Franco Gallo, Augusto Fantozzi, Giulio Tremonti, Vincenzo Visco and Gianni Marongiu.

In 1959 the A.N.T.I. was, with its colleagues from Belgium, Germany, France and The Netherlands, one of the charter members of the Confédération Fiscale Européenne (C.F.E.). The ANTI structure consists of seventeen regional branches and two delegations. It includes among its members a large number of chartered accountants, tax lawyers, accountants, notaries and tax law lecturers and counts approximately 1,100 associates.

The purpose of the A.N.T.I. is to promote conventions and meetings on the most significant tax issues to enhance the exchange of opinions among tax advisers and contribute to the training of young professionals. It is precisely for this reason that a journalist fellowship in honour of Ezio Vanoni has been created. As an organisation of tax practitioners working in the tax field, the ANTI is involved in promoting collective interests in connection with tax policies and issues before national tax authorities. Despite its close and direct connection with tax authorities, the ANTI, however, still keeps apart from the Italian political system and serves as a vehicle for protecting taxpayers’ interests. The A.N.T.I. banner carries the still relevant maxim of Ulpius Traianus: “Fiscus est lien quod, eo crescenti, reliqui artus contabescunt”

The A.N.T.I. publishes a two-monthly bulletin for members and the six-monthly magazine « NEWTERA », available in a paper and on line format.
